熱夜

許多市民問香港天氣是否越來越熱。答案當然是‘正確’,但實際情況跟我們一般理解有所不同。

由於香港高度城市化,一些熱能特別是來自太陽的熱力會被大廈、馬路及其他建築物吸收,令市區的日間溫度通常較新界地區為低。相信大家都知道由於位於九龍市中心,天文台的日間溫度通常都是較新界地區(例如打鼓嶺)低一兩度(圖一)。

晚間時分,情況剛好逆轉。建築物及基建將日間儲存的熱能釋放,令晚間城市溫度高於郊區。

早前本港舉行了全城無冷氣日。我找同事幫忙,計算了戰後到現在六十年間天文台錄得「熱夜」的變化。熱夜是指當天低溫達到 28 度或以上的晚上。結果參考圖二。

圖二清楚指出,五十年代平均的熱夜數目基本上寥寥可數,但到本世紀第一個十年已升至每年超過 20 天。

談到熱夜,打鼓嶺的情況完全不同。該處至今仍可算是郊區。除 2004 年僅得一天外,過去十年沒有出現熱夜,風扇足可令人感到涼快。這角度看,是一個氣候宜人的地方。

那麼,未來十年城市的情況會變得怎樣? 我們將未來可能發生的排放情況(由現有生活模式完全不變至到全力減排)引致的溫度轉變匯集後,得出的平均數字是 : 到 2020 年,熱夜數目會超過兩倍,達到每年 55 天。而日間溫度達到 33 度以上的日子,也會由每年 13 天倍增至 27 天。

在愈趨炎熱的天氣下,如果我們不改變生活的模式,社會便會消耗更多的化石能源。更多二氧化碳會排放到大氣,從而令地球進一步增溫,惡性循環愈演愈烈。
